An African Icon

About the image

As South Africans who visit the bush often, it’s not uncommon to have many photos of giraffes as they aren’t difficult animals to see. I think, because of how often we see them, we sometimes forget how iconic these animals are. No other continent has an animal quite like a giraffe. They are so unique and strange looking that they are ranked as one of the top 3 animals tourists want to see when visiting Africa. This photograph is a reminder that the big 5 aren’t the only interesting animals to see in the bush.

About the photographer

I have had a passion for wildlife and the bush for as long as I can remember. Growing up the bush was always my first choice for a holiday destination. Being so in love with the bush, I naturally found ways to more involved with it. One of those ways was wildlife photography. I got my first camera when I was 12, and now, 7 years later, thanks to that camera, I have found a community of people who love the bush, conservation and photography just as much as I do. This community has allowed me to meet the people who have become my best friends, to find a degree which I love and to grow and develop new passions involving the bush. Wildlife photography is not just a fun hobby to me, it was the key which unlocked the wonderful life I live today.
