In the Flock
About the image
It's incredible to witness the massive flocks of Red-billed Queleas in flight with their movements all synchronised. I started taking images trying to pan with a slow shutter speed to capture the movement of the flock when I noticed them slowly moving towards a small herd of Wildebeest. I knew I had to try to get them both in one shot. They flew perfectly in front of one of the isolated Wildebeest and I took a burst. I came away with an image that I was very happy with!

About the photographer
My name is Benjamin Loon. I grew up in Hoedspruit where, being surrounded by wildlife, my passion for nature started. From a young age I would spend as much time as possible out in the bush and it hasn’t changed since. My deep passion for wildlife inspired me to try wildlife photography to capture some of my favourite sightings. Very quickly I was hooked and that same passion for wildlife was transferred into my photography. Photography allows me to capture moments that often go unnoticed or unappreciated and it allows me to showcase wildlife in a unique, personal perspective.

CONSERVATION MESSAGE
I would like my photographs to give people a greater appreciation for the wild places and animals that still exist. Ultimately, I hope that appreciation translates into a desire to protect them.
