Cape Point Caracal
About the image
I was hiking up a specific trail in the Cape Point Nature Reserve and just as I reached the top of the rise I came face to face with this caracal kitten looking right at me. Despite being shocked at the luck of this encounter, I was able to capture a couple of portraits before the kitten turned away and disappeared down the other side of the cliff. After this moment, we watched the kitten and it's mother interact from our vantage point on top of the cliff for the next two hours. It was an incredible moment that has become one of my favourite photos, as it shows a detailed and initmate look at one of Africa's most elusive predators at the tip of Africa.

About the photographer
I first started taking photographs when I was 17, at first just as a way of recording the animals I was seeing. However, it didn't take long for it to evolve into me taking my camera with me almost everywhere I went in the hopes of photographing any animal. It also led to me taking a camera underwater, which opened up a whole new perspective on photography for me. I have been very lucky to photograph some truly incredible animals, from leopards and caracals to bull sharks, and to have shared their world with them for just a moment.
PHOTOGRAPHER'S QUOTE
Being out in nature and around wildlife is where I truly feel most alive and awake.
CONSERVATION MESSAGE
We need to make some dramatic (and uncomfortable changes) in how we interact with the natural world. We have the answers and the solutions, all it takes is the right action and one person willing to do it.
