Snacking in the Shadows
About the image
While packing up to leave Letaba in the Kruger National Park for our next camp, this little squirrel had my brother and I running around trying to capture the perfect shot. Every time we thought we had it, it would disappear or move just as we pressed the shutter. We were almost ready to give up when, just before we left, it finally paused for a snack and gave me the moment I had been waiting for. What makes this photo special to me is that it captures the fun and unpredictability of wildlife photography. You never know when your next favourite image will pop up. It wasn’t planned or a rare sighting it was simply a small moment that turned into one of my favourite memories from the trip with my brother.

About the photographer
I am a 17 year old wildlife photographer whose love for photography started at a young age. It all started way before I picked up any camera in the Kruger National Park where I was introduced to the beauty of wildlife and the bush by my grandmother. The Kruger became my home away from home and not long after I couldn’t put a camera down. Wildlife photography to me now isn’t just about capturing the perfect moment, it allows me to slow down and appreciate the smaller things in life bringing me back to my childhood where it all started.
PHOTOGRAPHER'S QUOTE
Photography gives me a reason to slow down, look closer, and appreciate the wild world around me.
CONSERVATION MESSAGE
I’d like people to remember that wildlife doesn’t need to be far away or dramatic for it to be worth protecting. Every animal and habitat plays a part in our natural world, and if we take the time to appreciate it, we’re more likely to care enough to protect it.
