Blood & Contrast

About the image

White lion of the Giraffe Pride Timbavati, Greater Kruger In the Timbavati, famed for the recessive gene behind the white lion, a new cub from the Giraffe Pride sits ear to ear with his tawny sister in a dry riverbed, white and gold contrast beside each other, capturing a genetic rarity that feels almost mythical to witness firsthand. I've watched this pride grow from strength to strength, giving me the privilege of documenting this young male's development. In Shangaan belief, he is a messenger from God, a rare, sacred presence growing up wild before me.

About the photographer

In 2023, my passion for photography was ignited. Growing up, I always liked the idea of being a photographer, but life pulled me in different directions. When I started guiding in 2023, photography became the natural way to hold onto the sightings and memories I was making on the reserve. Since then, it's grown into far more than a hobby, it's woven into the fabric of my everyday life as a guide. Every image is a way of capturing a moment, a story, a feeling, building a portfolio I'll one day look back on and share with my own kids, showing them the incredible life I've been fortunate enough to live. I feel deeply privileged to work in the bush and call this place home. And with that privilege comes a responsibility, to capture this beautiful world and to share it with people who may never get the chance to see it themselves.

PHOTOGRAPHER'S QUOTE

Let's strive to protect our wild spaces, and care for the natural world, in a way that would make our children's children proud.

CONSERVATION MESSAGE

This cub is proof that rarity isn't something to own, it's something to protect. If we want moments like this to still exist for the next person, we have to protect the wild spaces that make them possible.
