About the image
This image captures a leopard in a quiet, almost dreamlike moment, surrounded by the soft tones and textures of the bushveld. The photograph focuses on the feeling of the encounter rather than only the subject itself, using light, atmosphere and stillness to create a sense of mystery. Leopards are often seen as symbols of secrecy and elegance, and this image reflects that perfectly, inviting the viewer to pause and appreciate the beauty of a fleeting wild moment.

About the photographer
Luca Tomlinson is a 20-year-old wildlife photographer and birder from South Africa with a deep appreciation for the bushveld and the stories found in everyday wildlife encounters. He is especially interested in birds, animal behaviour and the small details that many people may overlook while on safari. Through his photography, Luca hopes to show that wildlife storytelling is not only about rare sightings, but also about noticing light, mood, movement and character in the natural world.
PHOTOGRAPHER'S QUOTE
“Wildlife photography has taught me that the most memorable moments are often the quiet ones you never saw coming.”
CONSERVATION MESSAGE
Leopards are one of Africa’s most iconic predators, yet their secretive nature often means they move through the landscape unnoticed. Their presence is a sign of a functioning wild ecosystem, where predator, prey and habitat remain connected. This image is a reminder of the importance of protecting not only the animals we are lucky enough to see, but also the wild spaces that allow them to live freely.
