A buried nose
About the image
I was guiding a couple from the UK who wanted to see a pangolin. Seeing it was summer, I explained it was unlikely, and soon it became a running joke with each drive that today would be the day we find a pangolin. One afternoon, while rushing to track lions, my tracker suddenly smacked the bonnet with excitement, pangolin tracks! We leapt out and began following them. The trail was tricky, belonging to a young individual, but thanks to the tracker’s skill we found it! Moving with care, the guests watched in awe. After days of joking, they had their first pangolin sighting. Their joy was unforgettable, a rare reward for patience and persistence. The encounter captured the unpredictability and wonder of the bush, reminding us you never quite know what’s around the next corner.

About the photographer
The love for the bush has flowed through my family for generations, beginning with my great-grandfather’s first visit to the Kruger in the 1930s. From that moment, each generation has carried on the tradition, returning time and again. I spent every birthday up until my sixteenth birthday in the Kruger, and it was once I moved from Johannesburg to Hoedspruit after school I decided to pursue guiding. Guiding has opened doors to other passions like photography and videography, allowing me to capture the magic of the bush. Through images I am able to share the beauty of this continent with those who share and meet people with the same deep love.
