Gentle Affection
About the image
I’ve had the privilege of watching this mother raise her four cubs close to home, and over time, I watched each of their personalities emerge. I also witnessed her lose one of them, a reminder of just how difficult life can be for a cheetah. Through it all, she never seemed to give up. We called her “Supermom” because nothing seemed to scare her — not even a leopard or a hyena. Cheetahs may seem vulnerable in such a harsh environment, but she showed incredible determination to protect and raise her young. This photograph captures a much softer side of her story. One of her cubs gently licks her head, almost as if showing appreciation for everything she has done. For this brief moment, mother and cub simply enjoy each other’s company, as though there is nothing else to worry about.

About the photographer
The reason I became obsessed with wildlife photography is because of my dad. He was the one who gave me my very first tiny click camera, and every vacation we went to wildlife parks. He taught me the drama and the storyline you can capture in a single photo. So, as I grew up and upgraded my cameras, all I wanted was to take better photos and make my dad proud of them. My dad takes incredible photos, and I hope I can one day capture the type of photos he does.
PHOTOGRAPHER'S QUOTE
Every photograph is a reminder of what we have to protect, because wildlife deserves to be seen in the wild, not exploited.
CONSERVATION MESSAGE
I have seen the cruelty of animal trafficking firsthand, and those who aren’t saved can be lost forever. Money can make people greedy and heartless, and in the process, they forget that these animals are not objects — they are living beings with families, bonds, and lives of their own. Remember this mother and her cub — this is what we are trying to protect.
