Bigger Than Hout Bay
About the image
This little lizard means more to me than just a photograph. Sitting among the granite of Hout Bay, it reminds me of how far my journey with reptiles has taken me, from curiosity as a child to finding purpose in studying them in the wild.

About the photographer
My love for wildlife began long before I picked up a camera. Growing up in a rural village in Mpumalanga, I spent much of my childhood surrounded by nature, and watching Animal Planet only deepened my curiosity about the wild. That curiosity eventually grew into a career in biodiversity conservation, where I now work as a conservation biologist and consultant. Photography became another way for me to connect with nature. I enjoy photographing reptiles, birds, mammals, landscapes, and the small details that are often overlooked. For me, being behind the camera is about more than taking a beautiful photograph. It is about freezing a moment, telling a story, and creating a connection between people and the natural world. Every photograph carries a piece of my journey and reminds me why I chose to dedicate my life to conservation.
PHOTOGRAPHER'S QUOTE
Every time I stand behind the camera, I am reminded of God’s incredible creation and grateful that, through Jesus Christ, I get to witness it and share its beauty with others.
CONSERVATION MESSAGE
