It's Time for Bed
About the image
This encounter started with a mother and her pups laying in the grass near a culvert, she was very relaxed while her pups were very nervous, hiding behind her. After a while the pups became more confident and restless but never venturing too far from her. After some time, the one pup ventured through the culvert onto the other side of the road and one could see the female had started to get concerned as she didn’t know where her one pup was. She started walking around looking for the pup, eventually crossed the road and found the pup, picked it up and proceeded to walk directly towards me this is when I captured this image. This image is meaningful to me as it show the tender care of a mothers grasp, even when they have one of the strongest bit forces.

About the photographer
My love for nature started long before my passion for photography. I grew up being interested with wildlife; by spending time outdoors, watching wildlife and learning about their behaviours. As a youngster I was fascinated by birds, I joined our local bird club and since my birding is still a passion; I’m a birder so definitely birds but along with that comes other wildlife encounters so I do enjoy photographing all wildlife. I enjoy spending extended periods with subjects which allow for you to learn more about their behaviour, I also get a sense of accomplishment when patience pays off and I am in the right place at the right time. For me, being behind the camera is an opportunity to share the wildlife moments I’ve captured. My camera is the tool to take photographs of subjects and their diverse habits and distinct wildlife behaviours.
PHOTOGRAPHER'S QUOTE
Patience in the field opens your eyes to a world where even the most misunderstood creatures reveal their secrets.
CONSERVATION MESSAGE
Conservation cannot just focus on the iconic or charismatic species; it must encompass every living link that keeps our world intact. While conserving species like Spotted Hyenas we often forget about the smaller things such as aquatic life, reptiles and smaller mammals. These often overlooked species are often outside of our formally protected areas and face major impacts.
