Ginger Giant
About the image
Myself and a friend went up to Ndumo to try connect with a Thick-billed Cuckoo and as a surprise for my friend i treated him to a walk to try for the Pel’s Fishing Owl, after some time trekking through thick vegetation along a river we broke into a patch of riparian forest and above us sat the beautiful Pel’s Fishing Owl, little did we know we were near a nest and we watched behaviour that i had never seen before, the Owl jumped lower and lower to detour us and was a mere 7m away from us just above eye level. A day we will never forget.

About the photographer
I am very fortunate enough to have grown up on a private reserve and currently still live there. From a young age birds captured my interest with their colors and flight patterns and i knew in the future i’d take my passion and use it for work. Being behind the camera means to capture nature in a time capsule and trwasure it for as long as one can remember. Pictures are worth 1000 words they say but the experience behind being there and taking that image is priceless.
