Nature's Spotlight
About the image
I've never enjoyed elephant as much as I did on this trip through Hwange. Every single herd was so relaxed and calm, and I never once felt nervous around them. That gave me the confidence to approach them on foot more than I normally would, and get down low to the ground for this unique angle. The beautiful lighting played ball, and during these photos I was just so relaxed and in my element. I knew the golden-hour light was making for some stunning images, and I think the feeling of relaxation and bliss comes through in the final photograph.

About the photographer
I was lucky to spend many of my childhood holidays in the bush, I got my first point-and-shoot camera at age 9, and the rest was history. Every time I step into the wild, I just relax. It's a level of peace I can't seem to find anywhere else, and I want the people looking at my work to feel the same way. Life is busy and I want my work to form an escape from that. My favourite subjects are those in their natural environments, especially when I can capture unique or funny interactions that I feel mimic my sarcasm and dry sense of humour. Recently I've found myself more drawn to landscapes and wider vistas with wildlife, as I find it more personal than the often detached view of a telephoto lens.
PHOTOGRAPHER'S QUOTE
Photography helps me express I can't with words.
CONSERVATION MESSAGE
One of my biggest gripes with humanity is the lack of care from so many people - you see it when someone throws a chip packet out the window of a car. I hope my photography can be one of the things that changes that. I want people to look at my photos and have the thought: "That's worth saving!"
